Poem: Wonder

Wonder

One evening, while watching
fireflies burst into moments
of light, I longed to join them.

My bare feet brushed across
cool summer grasses while
I twirled into the night.

I leaped from star to star
tiptoeing through constellations
before gliding to the surface of the moon
where my toes wiggled into moon dust.

I settled in and waited for the Earth to rise.

For links to poetry prompts, or if you missed out on what I did for National Poetry Month, check out the first post here.

You can also find all the poems that were posted here.

This is the last poem for the month, and this is the final call to share your work. Whether it’s something that you wrote as soon as you finished reading this post, or it’s a poem you’ve posted or had published, place the whole poem in the comments or put a link to it. A brief description before the link will help me process comments faster, so I know they’re not spam.

Also, feel free to share links to poems or spoken word performances by other poets. I hope this month brought a wide variety of poetry to everyone’s attention.

So beautiful! Sometimes, I too, wish I can join in with the fireflies!

    Oh! THIS!
    “while watching
    fireflies burst into moments
    of light”

    So incredibly gorgeous.

  3. I really love this… a wonderful dream…
I wish I knew fireflies, but we do not have them… somehow it seems that something is absent from my childhood.

Thank you! I have only had the opportunity to see fireflies a few times in my life, but I felt completely mesmerized when I did see them. The quickest twinkle of light and then it’s gone and all I want is to look at them directly when they light up, but it’s always from the corner of my eye. Then I search the night sky for the next twinkle.

Adore your poetry- just discovered today serendipitously so via Pinterest- thank You- just what needed! Recovering from an operation- listening to music, reading poetry, reading fiction books, watching uplifting movies, Pinterest, writing and reading letters is keeping my spirits up along with my loved ones care of course too plus helping me to be resilient as well as distracting me from all my various pains- such healing balm! Thank You for this gorgeous poem as well as the Buoyant poem of yours that totally adore! Warmest wishes from Devon in the south west of the UK, namaste Clara 🙂

Clara, thank you for such a sweet comment. I read the message you sent me through my contact page as well. You are such a fighter! I had no idea I’d get to wake up today to a comment from someone so kind and inspirational. My heart is full and I so appreciate you taking the time to make sure I received your message. Thank you also for your suggestions on the poets you left in your other message. I’ll have to check them out. I’m always excited to find new poets to read. And, may I say, it was such an honor to hear your story and to have a couple of my poems make it into your notebook. Words seem so inadequate to thank you and I’m so happy our paths crossed.
