Happy National Poetry Month!
I am thrilled that National Poetry Month is here! I am excited about all the attention poetry will get this month and hopefully people will be drawn into this beautiful genre with their extra time at home. Hopefully, people will find healing in poems, in these quiet moments of reflection, and the pool of poetry lovers will expand.
I thought I’d share a couple of places to get you started in this celebration of poetry. I’ll be sharing poetry throughout the month on Facebook and Twitter.
Former U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith hosts a podcast called The Slowdown that is fantastic! Each five-minute episode introduces a poem by a different poet, providing a different way to look at the world through poetry.
U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo has selected 22 poems by contemporary poets to be part of the Poem-a-Day program this month. To register to receive these poems by email, go to poets.org/poem-a-day.
I’d love to hear about new poets you come across this month, your favorite poems or poets, or something new you’ve learned about poetry.
