Dusty Poems 20
Welcome to the Dusty Poems series where I share poems I wrote back in college. As I’ve been working on the recording and graphics for this poem, I’ve really enjoyed revisiting this piece. At the point in my life when I wrote this poem, I feel I was very tolerant of a lot of things, but lying wasn’t one of them. The last line breaks my heart every time I read it.
Shadows dissipate
Evaporating the fears within my heart
Seldom can one find
Wisdom enough to forget what you hold onto
Years may pass
And I still won’t know
Why my soul allowed me to believe
When truth eludes you
Deception overcomes me
But still I looked for you
Through the dark
I prayed my faith in you never ran out
I asked that you leave me with little doubt
And I would have loved you for who you were
