Dusty Poems 21
The poem below is a part of a series called Dusty Poems, where I share poems I wrote when I was in college, and decided to dust off and share with all of you. I think this is the only poem I’ve ever written with a repeated stanza. I’m not sure how I feel about it honestly, but since I’m sharing these just as they were written all those years ago, it’s still in there.
I hear your words again
Repeated by someone else
But echoing with your intentions
And I awake
To remember who you were
And I dream without sleeping
Through the night
once again
Time after time
Your memories sinking in
Beat after beat
Your words are growing thin
Then I remember
Despite the haze in your eyes
How the window would close
With the strength of your lies
I am forgetful
When I promise not to feel
And I am breathless
When you speak to me
Let go of my heart
Before you cause me more pain
It is inevitable
There’s nothing to gain
Time after time
Your memories sinking in
Beat after beat
Your words are growing thin
